Oh, the Mini Mod Podβwhere do I even begin? From the moment we first saw it, we were in love, and we could instantly see its potential.
Let me back up a bit. We actually first looked at it when it went on the market two years before we jumped on it. At 2200 square feet, it had the space we needed and the vibe we wanted for a vacation rental, but we also saw how we could make it even cooler. A quick tour, and we were ready to make it our own.
Iβm lucky to have a husband who loves to help with the hands-on stuff. While I got to have a blast picking out the design pieces, Hugh was there for all the manual laborβhe truly stepped up and made the magic happen. I love that he let me do my thing, and I appreciate him for always being there to support the vision.
And it wasnβt just the two of usβour kids were right there with us while we were working on the house, especially in those rooms that became their favorite play areas. Iβll never forget how much Marian loved this one room with bookshelves, dreaming of filling it with all her favorite stories. It was the perfect space for her to let her imagination run wild. Wasnβt so much her cup of tea when I went with a blue and chartreuse color paletteβ¦ Sheβs a pink girl at heart!
Blue and chartreuse is such a fun pairing, and I first fell in love with it when I saw it at High Point Market. It’s playful, fresh, and gives the space such a vibrant energy.
As much as Iβd love to tell you I went wild with a bold lime green on the cabinets, the reality was a little more practical. The kitchen was just fine as it was, so we made small changes that made a big impactβlike swapping out the plumbing fixtures for sleek new ones and installing a stunning light fixture from Hudson Valley. Sometimes, less is more, and thatβs definitely the case here.
Okay, letβs talk about the bathrooms. The main one had zero natural light (which is always a design challenge), and the previous owner didnβt exactly make the best choices with the tile. But we got creative. We couldnβt justify redoing the whole thing, so we made some cosmetic updatesβswapping out the lights, adding fresh wallpaper, and installing new faucets from Kohler. Sometimes, small changes can make the biggest difference!
In the living room, I had to bring in these green velvet chairs that had been sitting in our shop for a while. They were the perfect fit for the space, and I love how they turned out. And the pink sofa? I couldnβt resistβit was a steal from one of our vendors, and it adds such a fun pop of color. Sometimes, itβs about having fun with the design, and I think this room totally shows that.
As for the solarium, Hugh wasnβt initially convinced, but I saw the potential right away. With a little creativity, it became a bright, retro-inspired space that now feels super cozy and unique. Itβs the kind of room that brings all the right vibes for the space and really completes the house. Sometimes, a little faith in a funky idea can pay off big time.
Through all the chaos of renovations and design decisions, Iβve realized that Hugh and I really thrive in the middle of it all. It was so fun collaborating together on this projectβno disagreements, just good times and good design. It turned out to be one of the best projects weβve worked on, and Iβm already excited for the next one.
So, what’s next for us? Stay tuned. Thereβs always something new on the horizon, and I canβt wait to share it with you!
