Project Reveal: From the Ground Up

February 14, 2024

The name of this project is totally fitting – we watched this Kiawah oasis come to life quite literally from the ground up! Welcome to the reveal of our “From the Ground Up” project, located on beautiful Kiawah Island. We wanted to create the ultimate vacation home for our client and worked to make each space light, bright, and airy. Filled with blue hues and coastal elements, this home is a serene sanctuary to relax and spend time with family and friends after long days on the sunny Kiawah beaches.

Entryway

Upon entering, there is an immediate nod to the serene color palette that is carried across the entire home. Guests are met with cool-toned gray hues that accentuate the detail in the wide-plank white oak floors that run throughout. These eye-catching fringed ottomans tucked neatly beneath the console table create a striking first impression and are used for bonus easy access to extra seating! The woven mirror adds interesting texture while keeping the coastal and clean aesthetic at the forefront of this project. We selected the vintage runner to bring some warmth and color to the space, especially when met with the abundance of natural light that streams into this entry. The color on the walls is “Pure White” by Sherwin Williams, and this paint serves as the perfect neutral-toned white!

Powder Bath

Located just off of the entryway is this calming powder bath. We opted for this soft and soothing wallpaper to pair with the crisp white appliances, creating a clean look. You will see these blue tones carried throughout the home– we specifically picked this wallpaper because it felt like the movement of water! The oversized ceramic mirror and textured vase pair nicely with the bright and airy tones of this bathroom.

Living Room

The neutral hues continue into the living room, accented by these fun teal-toned pillows on the two oversized slipcover sofas flanking the fireplace. We played with texture by adding in wooden chairs with woven detailing to keep that beachy feel. The fun tile around the fireplace is framed by two French doors leading into the home office that keep this space flooded with natural light. We added not one, but two round coffee tables for ample tabletop space and zero sharp edges.

Kitchen

The sky-blue cabinets are the star of the show in this kitchen, paired with silver hardware and natural wood shelving. We used the color “Smoke” by Benjamin Moore to create this blue oasis in the heart of the home. We love when a client is willing to play with color in the kitchen, and this space is no exception! The textured backing of the neutral bar stools enhance the coastal feel and accentuate the white and gray detailing of the quartzite countertops. We also love to work with fun light fixtures over a kitchen island– these spherical, orb pendants allowed us to experiment with shape and lines in the space.

Dining Room

Moving onto the dining room, we overlook an incredible view of Kiawah’s brightly wooded treeline. This long dining table is enhanced by an incredible chandelier with dangling accents at varied heights. Keeping in harmony with the blue tones throughout, the art piece on the back wall ties in the teal from our living room pillows beautifully. This piece is titled “Rolling Stones” and is available for purchase in our shop. Dimension is added back in with this fun grasscloth wallcovering lining the ceiling. We can’t get enough of that view out of the spacious windows!

Porch

Right off of the dining room, we have a beautiful closed-in porch overlooking the pool– perfect for hosting! This porch offers additional dining space as well as a lounge area around the fireplace.

Drop Zone

Definitely one of the highlights of this home is the “drop zone”, which is exactly what it sounds like! It’s the perfect place to unload any beach gear with lots of functional storage. We went with the paint color “Evergreen Fog” by Sherwin Williams. The herringbone floor adds character and dimension to this space, making it one of our favorite spots!

Stairway

The stairs are lined with a gray wool runner that is perfect for kids and pets! The white oak from the flooring is carried over in the handrail, accented by black iron spindles to add dimension. On display is an art piece depicting a peaceful marsh scene, available for purchase in our shop titled “Marsh Serenity 1”.

Primary Bedroom

As we venture upstairs, “serene” is the first word that comes to mind when describing this primary bedroom. The blue and gray tones foster a relaxing feel with clean lines and simplistic details. The hammered metal bed frame adds unique texture and dimension to the space and is the focal point of this bedroom.

Primary Bathroom

Keeping the airy vibes of the bedroom going, we enter into the primary bathroom where we are immediately met with crisp white walls and a beautiful glass walk-in shower. However, the highlight of the space is without a doubt this gorgeous white tub. Accented by a fun chandelier, this spacious tub lets us all daydream of a spa-day. The cabinets are a natural wood tone with black hardware, accentuating the details of the chandelier.

Kids Bunk Room

This kids bedroom is the ultimate slumber party destination with this eye-catching built in. We had such a blast styling this piece that sleeps 4– maximizing the space in this room was a must! The dreamy sky-blue hues from the kitchen and powder room carry into the bunk room, enhanced by the fun wallpaper titled “Kiawah” across the ceiling created by local textile designer, Emily Daws. The paint color used on the bunks is “Mount Ranier Gray”’ by Benjamin Moore– not to be mistaken as it is a stunning blue!

Guest Bedroom 2

We played with some navy tones in this additional guest bedroom with printed pillows and a chunky knit throw. The woven sconces framing the bed add texture and stay true to the beachy feel of the rest of the home. The abstract art piece on the opposite wall is available for purchase at our shop and is titled “Moody Blues II”.

Guest Bathroom

Keeping this guest bathroom light and bright, we painted the cabinets Benjamin Moore “Stonington Gray”, which leans more as a pale blue! For the floor tiles, we chose this fun pattern that brings out the cool hues of the cabinets.
