Permanent Vacation

When staying home feels like vacation! Our clients' favorite travel destination is Costa Rica which served as the inspiration behind the design of their home. We used natural woods, white linens and rattan furnishings to keep a clean/coastal/contemporary look. Each room in the home differs but keeps the same relaxed and neutral vibe. We added a little contrast throughout with pops of black from the kitchen island to the master bedroom nightstands to the all black shiplap powder bath. I love how our clients sophisticated yet casual, cool personal style is reflected throughout the design.

Our clients purchased the home with the intent to renovate the already stunning property to better fit their needs with the help of Salt Marsh Contracting. We assist our clients in choosing everything from lighting, pluming, tile, flooring, paint, etc. and are very comfortable working with a contractor from start to finish. Pro tip when choosing paint ~ my go to is always a flat {scrubbable} white on the walls and a satin in the same shade on the cabinets. We love to be brought on at the beginning of a project to help with selections and finishes!

Some highlights of this project are the living room renovation- they opened up the space by knocking down a wall which separated the living and dining areas. The dining area was repositioned next to the kitchen and the living room opened up all the way through to a wall of windows featuring gorgeous marsh views. The new concrete linear fireplace is so fabulous and really speaks to the clean, contemporary look our clients wanted to achieve. We also helped design the most luxurious master closet with custom cabinetry, a vanity and center island that WOWs! One of my favorite aspects of the design is the nursery. This sweet space is what neutral nursery dreams are made of. We finished the install just as our clients welcomed their new baby which made the entire project so special. What's better than coming home to a fresh new space?!

Our presentation boards help our clients visualize how all of the pieces of the design will work together in the finished spaces. We showcase all of the selections including lighting, furnishings, mirrors, artwork and accessories. We also provide our clients and their contractors with a floor plan and lighting plan to clearly lay out where each fixture and piece of furniture will be placed.

I love taking a look back at the before and after photos to show how the space changed with the implementation of our design. This project was especially fun to look at as our clients made some major changes to the layout of the main areas of the home to better fit their needs. I love how creative we were able to get with the addition of a bar area in the living room and repurposing space off of the kitchen for storage, shelving and a home office! Take a look at how this home changed over the course of the design:

Our design team works hard to source the highest quality furniture, lighting, plumbing, wall coverings, etc. from a variety of vendors we love. We are also lucky enough to incorporate many items we can offer to our customers through our shop! I am constantly working to curate the Megan Molten shop with all of my favorite finds from dining tables, consoles, mirrors, decorative objects, bedding and so much more. Check out our "shop the look" guides to recreate scenes from our designs in your own home.

The entry is the first impression of your home so we like to make an impact. I also love having a mirror for one last look as you walk out the door and start your day! This particular entryway was not a very wide space so we decided to use a floating wood shelf to hold a few decorative items under a circular mirror similar to our, Belle Mirror. The custom wood shelf tied in with the floating shelves in the kitchen and bar area giving a hint of whats to come as soon as you enter the home. We styled the shelf with the Ascending Ring Vase full of faux greenery, our Camellia Branches along with two of our Kenya Bone and Wood Photo Frames and a Megan Molten Candle. Beneath the shelf we placed two woven baskets for added storage and texture. I also love the use of Vintage Rugs throughout the home but particularly in the entryway. A vintage rug adds personality, style, color and character to a space and is a durable choice for high traffic areas.

This living room is oh so cozy! I am obsessed with the linear fireplace and the contemporary feel it brings to the space. Lots of homes we work with have built in bookshelves. When styling bookshelves we like to keep it light and bright ~ using neutral colors, wood, ceramic and glass materials and books. Think less is more! We used a variety of coffee table books paired with Clear Glass Bookends, three sizes of the Black Maha Bone Photo Frames, a Reclaimed Wood Obelisk, and Carved Alabaster Bowls filled with antlers {a personal item our client wanted incorporated into the design). We used a natural woven rug similar to The Tobago to solidify the living space with the Courtney Sofa Sectional. We filled the sectional with our favorite pillows from the shop for added color and dimension. Lastly, we used two round drum coffee tables similar to the Cash Coffee Table. When styling coffee tables we like to use the rule of three ~ having three items or groupings to fill the space. We also like to incorporate some added height with greenery or Fluffy Bleached White Pampas Grass.

Dinner with a view! We landed on a large natural wooden dining table, similar to our Beckham Dining Table, as it felt grounded in the space and complimented the wooden shelving throughout the home. To soften the look we used our favorite White Linen Dining Chairs and added contrast with a brass chandelier. We finished the look with large candle holders lining the center of the table.

The kitchen is truly the heart of the home~ this family wanted to stick to a neutral color palate so we brought in interest through greenery and woven elements. We added some needed contrast with the black island are are in LOVE with this look. I always fill open shelving in kitchens with beautiful glassware, jars and serving pieces ~ find my favorites under our Kitchen accessories.

Kitchen items should be both beautiful and functional. We placed our favorite Round Wood Cutting Board and Long Rectangular Wood Cutting Board stacked behind the stove to be on display and for easy access. We also incorporated Salt & Pepper Pinch Bowls, the Mango Wood Canister set and some our favorite planters ~ the Grey Patterned Stoneware Planters. I love nothing more than a statement vase such as our Embossed Lines Organic Vase filled with live palms from your yard or our Full Faux Fan Palms on a kitchen island. We typically pair it with a big bowl to serve as a catch all or for fruit and a candle!

Nurseries can be both sweet and sensible by incorporating objects that the child can grow with including the dresser, daybed and artwork! We had so much fun working on this special space incorporating soft hues and textures. One of my favorite pieces is the Dreaming Chica on Grasscloth artwork by Windy O'Connor for a special touch our clients baby girl can have for years to come. A go to nursery item for us is the Acrylic Floating Bookshelf - the perfect place to display books, photos, stuffed animals and decorative accents. Check out our Kids section for all my favorite children's finds! We also used two of our Westbridge Poufs at the end of the daybed. I find the handwoven wool to be the perfect soft touch for a children's rooms!

We wanted the master bedroom to feel like a tropical oasis. Using minimal color and more grounding elements such as natural woods, woven shades and white linens we were able to create a calming, serene bedroom for our clients. Bedding is so important to get right! We absolutely love all of the bedding options from our shop ~ our go to is always the White Washed Linen Duvet Cover, Sham and Euro Sham. Something about an all white bed is so crisp and refreshing after a long day! We added in contrast with two darker nightstands similar to our Hayes Chest. We typically keep nightstands pretty simple with lamps and a few decorative items. For this bedroom we styled the Megan Molten Candle and Seagrass Frame on a Gilded Hammered Decorative Tray.

Another item I was so excited to see in a space is the Morty Dresser. I love the simplicity of the white dresser topped with Farmhouse Wood Hurricanes and the Wood & Mirror Hex Tray. To style the tray we stacked the Chiseled Mangowood and Bone Box with Agate Stone on top of the Surf Tribe book along with the Avon Ceramic Pot and a faux plant for easy upkeep!
