Coastal interiors have long been associated with breezy blues, crisp whites, and a light, airy aesthetic. But in 2025, it’s time to break free from tradition and embrace a more daring, dynamic approach to coastal design. One of my biggest design pet peeves? A fear of color! While we always respect and cater to our clients’ visions, color is what brings a space to life. This year, we’re leaning into depth, texture, and personality—here’s how you can, too.
It’s time to rethink the typical coastal color palette. While soft blues and stark whites will always have their place, 2025 is about unexpected depth. Think deep greens, moody charcoals, and warm, earthy tones that make a space feel curated and rich.
Say goodbye to washed-out, whitewashed everything. Dark-stained woods, walnut finishes, and rich mahogany tones are making a grand comeback, bringing warmth and sophistication back to coastal spaces.

Plain walls are out. Statement-making murals and wallpapered feature walls are the future. We’re particularly excited about our own Mitchell Black Collection, which showcases bold patterns that bring walls to life. Whether it’s a sprawling hand-painted mural or a geometric print, wall coverings are back in a big way.

Lighting isn’t just functional—it’s an opportunity for expression. Sculptural, statement-making light fixtures add instant personality to a space. We’ve curated an entire collection with Mitzi Lighting that embodies this concept—because why settle for ordinary when lighting can be extraordinary? Explore the collection here.

Mixing patterns creates layers of personality in a space. Think unexpected combinations—stripes with florals, geometrics with organic prints. We embraced this at Sully Sanctuary, where clashing prints came together in a harmonious, high-end coastal retreat. See it here.

Straight lines are giving way to gentle curves. Arched doorways, niches, and built-ins soften a space, adding a sense of old-world charm with a modern twist. The Funky Folly kitchen features arched doorways that make a major impact without overwhelming the design.

Rounded furniture, curved sofas, and sculptural decor elements are leading the way in 2025. Organic shapes bring fluidity and movement into a space, making it feel more inviting and natural.

While classic white marble will always be timeless, colored marble is the next big thing. Deep emerald greens, rich burgundies, and veined blues are taking center stage, bringing drama and distinction to bathrooms and kitchens alike. See how we used bold marble in this Folly Beach bathroom for an ultra-luxe effect.

Ceilings are often an afterthought, but in 2025, they’re a canvas for creativity. Whether it’s a textured grasscloth, a bold pattern, or a high-gloss paint, designing the “fifth wall” is an instant game-changer.

At Megan Molten Interiors, we believe in pushing the boundaries of coastal design. Whether you’re ready to embrace bold color, unexpected textures, or statement-making details, we’re here to bring your vision to life.
