The Megan Molten Studio

When I began my journey as an interior designer, I worked out of my home. As my business grew and I added more members to my team it became apparent we would need a studio to call home base. I always dreamed of a bright, beautiful space for my team to feel creative and inspired while working. As I have learned, sometimes with a little paint, the right furniture and lighting- you can transform even the drabbest of spaces. We previously had a storage unit which housed all of our furniture and decorative accessories I would pull for design projects. I decided one day to create a simple Shopify website and see if other people would be interested in purchasing these items to experience a bit of our design in their own homes. As the Megan Molten Shop grew, our need for a warehouse grew as well.

Hugh and I were lucky enough to find the perfect space! It is located in Mount Pleasant off a bustling road close to our home and lots of the homes we work on! The space had offices in the front and a warehouse behind it which was exactly what I needed. We went to see the space and mapped out a quick floor plan:

I decided to paint the entire office my all time favorite white paint color which I use in many of my designs, Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore. I wanted to update the old sliding doors to the conference room and chose State Street Pink by Benjamin Moore. We added a Ro Sham Beaux chandelier and pendant as well as seagrass carpet by Franks Rush and Cane Supply. My desk is vintage from One of A Find here in Charleston and the sideboard is from Celadon, one of my favorite local shops.

Our team loves having a space we can collaborate and make our visions for our clients come to life! Having an open, airy space breathes life into the energy of our studio and the MM dream team. We decided to add a large bulletin board to one wall so we can speak openly about all our of projects at any given time. Our clients also love to see the design boards and samples around the studio. Our conference room is centered around a large oval table which you can always find one of us working at and my favorite woven chairs.

Check out some of the before and afters of the space. It took a lot of dreaming and seeing past the vinyl flooring and grey walls to imagine what the space could be!

We sprinkle items from the shop around the studio so we can show our design clients ways of styling as well as always have our knew items from the shop on display. Our bar cart holds frames, a crystal geode stone and coffee table books. My desk is complete with a white decorative stingray tray which holds a brass photo frame, cacti pot, Church Street candle and ceramic oyster dish.

My all time favorite lamps by the inspiring Kelly Wearstler sit on the console behind my desk. I love using this lamp in client homes.

Storage solutions are so important and can still be beautiful! We added woven boxes from Ikea and pillows from Emily Daws textiles to our shelving in the studio.

Another thing you will notice at the MM studio is artwork from the shop. I love to show clients how we frame the art and the different pieces we carry. Charleston Peninsula Print by 42 Pressed is one of my favorites on the shop, framed by A Simple Tree Personal Framer in a gold frame with a black matte.

I use baskets all over the office, as I do in many client homes to hold extra pillows and as planters for larger plants!

xx,

Megan
