Welcome to the Megan Molten blog! As many of you know, we were formally Megan Ann McFarland Style and Design, but the name has changed along with some recent changes in my life. We are so excited to begin this new chapter as Megan Molten!
Getting married this past May was one of the biggest highlights of 2019. I decided to not only change my personal name but change the business name as well. This decision truly was a no brainer for me. I am my business and I am my brand. This is my new identity. So this is what I want to do to fully stay connected to the business.
Plus, Megan Molten kinda has a nice ring to it?! What do y’all think haha?
So, not only do we have a new name, but now we also have a new blog! This blog came because of YOU. When I bought my first home in Charleston, I started sharing my ideas, progress, and designs on Instagram. To my surprise, I received an outpouring of positive feedback from my followers, gaining many new ones along the way. It encouraged me to be authentic about my journey and open up even more. Therefore, this blog is going to compliment my social media and give you all an even deeper dive into what’s behind my Instagram posts and projects.
I didn’t realize it at the time, but I had a consistent design aesthetic that I was using to build my brand from the very beginning. My designs have always had a very obvious light and airy feel, with a softer palette and hints of coastal flare. You all really connected with my vibe and were drawn to these designs. It was your encouragement and support that really gave me the self-confidence to continue to put my work out there on Instagram.
As I continued to post and be vulnerable online, I started growing my following and making so many great new friends along the way. Then these friends had their own friends that I met, who then hired me and became my first few clients. I couldn’t believe the power of social media and word of mouth!
After 12 years of climbing the corporate ladder in healthcare sales, I called it quits to pursue my dreams in interior design. This truly was my passion, so I was determined to put everything I had into it and make this my new career. I sold my home along with everything I owned. I didn’t know if it was going to work, but I knew this risk was worth taking! I knew that if I didn't take this chance and give it 100% of my effort, then I would regret it.
Finally, on January 1, 2018, Megan Ann McFarland Style & Design was born. It was the most incredible year of my life! Since then, I met my husband and bought a home in downtown Charleston that became our studio. I hired four new team members and, together, we started an eCommerce store now called the Megan Molten Shop. In our first year alone, we completed 39 design projects! To top it all off, I got engaged! It was an amazing whirlwind, with everything falling into place just as it was supposed to.
Over the course of my first year in business, the most important thing I learned was to be honest and to be real. After all, that is what you guys really want and love! During these times of vulnerability and truthfulness is when I got the most support and encouragement that kept me going.
From day 1 of my interior design career, I have always wanted a blog. But with so much else going on and the many other distractions that all come with starting a new business, I never had the time to make it a reality. I am happy to finally be at a point in my career where I have the right pieces in place to make a blog happen as well as a supportive audience excited to read it. And that is why the Megan Molten Blog is being created!
I want this blog to be another platform for me to give you what you want on a weekly basis. Instagram is great for visuals of our portfolio and for day to day projects, but this blog is going to allow me to delve even deeper into your questions and give my answers a place to permanently live, all while providing an even stronger personal connection to my business.
The Megan Molten Blog is here to give you what you want to see and what you want to know! If you have a question, feel free to drop it in the comments below or DM me on Instagram. I can’t wait to hear from you.
Many thanks for all the support!
xx,
Megan
